Arab nations have condemned plans by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to annex parts of Occupied West Bank when re-elected into office. On Tuesday, 10th of September, the Prime Minister pledged to apply Israel sovereignty over the Jordan valley and Northern Dead Sea when he returned to power. His made this comments prior next week general elections.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967 but has stopped short of annexation. Palestinians have claimed the whole area for future independent state. But the Prime Minister had earlier insisted that Israel would retain presence in the Jordan valley for security reasons.
Officials in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other Aab nations have criticized the Netanyahu’s announcement stating it is a dangerous development. Palestinian diplomat Saeb Erekad noted that the move would be a war crime that would bury any chance of peace in the region.
The Prime Minister leads the Right-Wing Likud Party which is currently in the polls with the opposition Centrist Blue and White Political Alliance parties
