World leaders converge in New York city for the 74th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This years General Assembly is focused on climate action. sixty leaders all over the world are expected to deliver their key note speech from the 24th to the 30th of September.
Secretary General of United Nations gave his opening speech about an hour and half ago. He noted that the time has come for nations all over the world to tax pollution and not people. He also revealed in his statement that his generation has failed in protecting the planet. “it is time to tax pollution and not people, nature is angry and we fool ourselves if we think we can fool nature because nature always strikes back. Our warming earth is issuing a chilling cry; stop. My generation has failed in protecting our planet” Secretary General, Antonio Guterres said in his opening address.

Young teenage girl who is a climate activist and currently championing campaigns across the globe on dangers of climate change also addressed world leaders. The speech of 16year old Getra Thunberg who hails from Sweden caught the attention of world leaders. According to the young lady, world leaders have turn death ears to their plea.
“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words, you are still not mature to tell it as it is. My generation will have to live with your consequences. The world is changing up and change is coming whether you like it or not. I should not be here, i should be back in school in the other side of the ocean. My message is that, we will be watching you” the young climate activist noted.Her speech was very emotional and touched lots of leaders
Other influential leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron, India’s Prime Minister Modi, all pledged their support to find a lasting solution for the canker. They presented pragmatic solutions to salvage the situation. Before the commencement of the summit, Antonio Guterres told world leaders not to come with honey and sweet speeches but real practical solutions to help tackle climate change.
