Chinese Government announced few days ago it has started producing cocoa and already exporting to some European countries i.e Belgium. China discovered its tiny island, Hainan province could be a fertile ground for cocoa. The second most powerful nation on earth has already exported her very first produce to Belgium and will soon expand to more European countries.
Some Ghanaians on social media have raised concerns over this current development. To some, Ghana’s cocoa remains unmatched. Agreed minister of Ghana noted that Chinese cocoa can’t compete with Ghana cocoa on the global market. But Ghana cocoabod holds a divergent view. Fiifi Boafo who is public relations manager for cocoabod noted that china producing cocoa and exporting to Europe should be of great concern to Ghana.
it’s been of concern, a concern in a sense that generally the cocoa market has been saturated and consumption does not seem to be growing as fast as production so any new addition in terms of production because higher production without commensurate consumption will force the price of cocoa downwards. Mr Boafo revealed.
Actor, farmer and politician John Dumelo also raised concerns hours ago, describing it As worrisome.
Ghana and Ivory coast remains largest exporter of cocoa as we speak.
