In their quest to ensure Ghana become an anchor of peace, a group calling itself Friends of Dr. Kwaku Oteng Society Ghana has called on individuals, traditional authorities, the clergy, and the Islamic societies to see themselves irrespective of their political affiliation as an instrument of peace-builders to create an enabling environment for peace to attain.
‘’As a nation going into an election, we need to protect the safety and security of the citizenry to allay the political tension in the country’’.
Addressing thousands of youth on Saturday 19th September, 2020, during a keep-fits exercise organized to demonstrate the love of peace and to also keep their health status active in Kumasi, Mr. James Arthur Darko, the chairman of the group and leader of the Keep-Fits used the opportunity to urge the public especially the youth to be self-guarded with peace at where they are in order not to become a victim of societal violence. Adding it’s time to inform and educate others who are not abreast with the need to observe peace both in offices, social gathering and political rallies as part of measures to instill the spirit of patriotism before, during and after the December 7 polls.
Peace, he said, is a collective responsibility thus, individuals are duty- mandated to seek it path…therefore he advised the National Council for Civic Education to constitute a pragmatic structures to conform on it educational drive to educate the citizenry on why they should exercise their constitutional obligations toward the 2020 general elections. The role of the NCCE is pivotal in ensuring free, fair and transparent and violence free elections therefore more of their contributions in the upcoming elections are paramount and demanding.
